As I stand behind the sacred desk to proclaim the Word, I am mindful that the same word I preach is applicable to me as well. Being boastful, haughty or too full of ourselves brings destruction. We need to be mindful that our accomplishments are due to His blessings. All of us can find ourselves being vain and proud at times. This is especially true when we look over our lives and see from where the Lord has brought us. Most of us are most certainly blessed. But when those blessings come, we must remain humble, knowing that whatever we have comes from God. I always ask God to search me so that I do not become guilty of losing sight of who has blessed me. Humility and walking with God are crucial to our day-to-day living. In Proverbs 29:23, we find these words:

“Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.”

The writer indicates that pride is sinful and predicts its consequences. Eventually, those who act arrogantly will be humiliated. We must never allow pride to bring us down, causing our destruction. We must always remain humble so that we will be blessed.  And we must always remember that everything that we have, and everything that we are, comes from God.
