Prepare Your Mind

We are called every day to have the mind of Christ. The United Negro College Fund has a saying, “The mind is a terrible thing to waste.” I would add, “A mind that is not of God is wasted.” We need to prepare our minds to think like God, to have honorable thoughts toward good and not evil. In 1 Peter 1:13, we find these words:

“So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.”

Peter wants the people to be obedient to the Lord, to be sober-minded with their hope fully on the grace that has been given to them. He wants them to be obedient, holy, and honorable unto God. He does not want them to indulge in things that would take them away from God, but rather prepare their minds to be in His will. And so it is for us. It is critical that our minds are connected to our hearts, for the scripture says in Proverb 23:7 (KJV) “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”  If you think evil, you will do evil. Therefore, thinking good thoughts will result in our doing good deeds. It is my prayer today, that not only do we have a mind of Christ, but also we prepare our minds by engaging in holy thoughts and deeds.
