As we pray for God’s blessings, we need to be mindful of the things we should pray for. Sometimes we pray for material blessings, but fail to pray for spiritual blessings. It is important that we pray for our souls to prosper, for what good is it if we gain all of life’s riches and lose our souls (Matthew 16:26)? We need our souls to prosper; we need a strong soul the same way that we need our health and strength. We should never neglect to pray for our souls. Most of us may have never thought about that. We should begin to pray for our souls today. In 3 John 1:2,  we find these words:

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

John the Apostle prays that all things are well and that the people may prosper in their health even as their souls prosper. He wants them to have healthy bodies and also healthy souls. He wants them to walk in truth and love, and he knows this is not possible without a healthy soul. He knows their spiritual being has to be nurtured and cared for, otherwise they will not be able to live as children of God. He prays that they may be well, not just in body but also in soul. Our souls, when cared for, will last for eternity. Wow! Perhaps we never thought about that before. The same way our bodies need care, so do our souls.
