PRAY GOD’S WORDS BACK TO HIM
My heart is moved as I write this devotion. I remember some years ago, one of our deacons who relocated to Florida, prayed God’s Word back to Him. He would quote scripture as He prayed saying, “Lord, you said, that they that wait upon the Lord will renew thy strength.” His prayer was grounded in the Word and promises of God. I shall never forget how he never forgot the Word. God keeps His promises. What He promises, He will deliver. Therefore, when we pray with faith, we believe the very Word of God that God does answer prayer. Our scripture reference is Isaiah 62:6.
“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the LORD.”
In this moving passage, the walls of Jerusalem lie in ruins. The Lord has sent watchmen upon the walls. The prophet, Isaiah, prays unto the Lord. He knows what the Lord has promised. Isaiah pleads with the Lord, bringing the Lord’s remembrance of what He said He would do. He reminds the Lord of the promises He made to reestablish Jerusalem. The Lord has taken an oath to restore the land. Isaiah’s prayer is one of remembrance. He knows that the Lord has power. What great faith the prophet has. In verse eight, he says that the Lord has sworn to Jerusalem by His own strength. It is my fervent prayer that when you pray, know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God keeps His Word. Never pray with doubts. Know that what God said He will do, He will do. We can always count on Him.
