Today’s devotion gives us practical advice for living. It is not how much scripture you memorize, but how much scripture you can live. Memorization is good, but practical application is better. We should pray about everything before we do anything. Pray before you plan. Never leave God out of your plans. I would argue that far too many of us have planned before we prayed; only to find our plans destroyed before we start. Before we do anything, prayer comes first. God will give us direction when we seek His guidance. We find in Proverbs 19:21 our scriptural text:

“You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.”

In this moving passage, the writer states the importance of praying before we plan. He states that one’s thoughts and plans take a new meaning when you have given them over to God. It is the pleasure and purpose of God for one’s plans to succeed. Our plans must always be under the divine will of God. That is why it is necessary to pray that our plans meet His approval. He has a blueprint for our lives and knows what is best for us. The writer indicates that we must be willing to listen to God’s advice so that we get the instruction to help us grow in wisdom and truth. Offer your plans to God for His approval. Many of us have many plans for our lives. As the scripture says, but God can meet every one of them when you turn them over to Him. Pray and watch your plans become a reality, then praise God for how He has blessed you when you offered your prayer first for your plans.
