I remember as a youth in Sunday School singing a song with the lyrics, “I got the joy of the Lord down in my heart”.  I didn’t know its full meaning then, but I know it now.  My heart is bubbling over with the joy of the Lord.  This is undeniably my strength.  I’ve lived long enough to know true joy.  I can honestly say there is no joy like the joy of the Lord.  It causes me to rejoice and it helps me when I’m dealing with problems, burdens, or troubles.  It puts my mind at ease, it puts a song in my heart, and it changes my perspective on life.  It allows me to sing songs of praise even though I’m pulled by the pressures of life. This is what we find in Isaiah 61:10.

“I am overwhelmed with joy in the LORD my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her jewels.

Here the writer of these words expresses his overflowing joy in a hymn of thanksgiving.  The outburst of gladness has caused great jubilation in his soul.  God’s graciousness has surrounded him, for he has been covered with the robe of righteousness.  Yahweh has covered him, wrapped him, and surrounded him; therefore, he breaks forth with a song of praise.  He says without reservation and hesitation his soul shall exalt his God.  I pray that you experience what the writer of this scripture is saying as your soul takes delight in the Lord and you are overwhelmed by God’s righteousness.  It has covered you, kept you, protected you, and you are resting in His care.  We can say, “This joy that I have the world didn’t give it to me and the world can’t take it away.”
