It is vital that we recognize that our body is a temple of God. What we take into our bodies determines a great deal, about who we are. I would argue strongly that there are those who train their bodies for physical strength. There are also those who eat healthy, so their bodies maintain good health. These two efforts are important, but alone, they will not create healthy bodies that represent the temples of God. We need to treat our bodies as gifts from God by not consuming anything vile or ungodly that will create fleshly desires. The scripture lesson, I Corinthians 6:19 speaks of how our bodies are God’s temple.

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,”

Paul speaks clearly that one’s body must honor God. He even writes of the need to stay away from sexual sin. He goes to great lengths to speak about the fact that we belong to God and God brought us with a high price. Consequently, we must honor God with our bodies. We hear him say at another time that he punished his body to train it to do what it should not do what it wants to do. Otherwise, he might be unfit. Paul knew of self-control. When you can, read this entire chapter. Always seek to honor God with your mind, body, and soul.
