We cannot abuse our bodies! Our bodies are living temples of God. We need to treat our bodies as a way of honoring God. Our bodies need rest and renewal. As important as physical exercise is, we can damage our bodies by pushing it to do what it is not prepared to do. Exercise requires discipline and we must do it at a pace that does not run the risk of injury. What we put into our bodies is also crucial. Much of what we do to our bodies has little to do with viewing it as a temple of God. Sometimes people exercise to look good physically, with no thought of honoring God. Always remember that we only have one body. We are reminded of that as we age, and our bodies shut down. Thanks be unto God that He has given the blessings for worshipping Him with our bodies. The scripture lesson for today is I Corinthians 6:19:

 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,”

Paul gives wise counsel regarding the temptations of sin. He is deeply concerned about the lifestyle of the people and wanted them to know that their bodies are members of Christ. He tells them that they are bought with a price. In fact, the King James Version poses a question: “Did you know?” He reminds them of the awesome sacrifice made on their behalf to save them from sin. Paul knew that a dedicated life to the Lord required a life of service in the heart, mind and body. Their conduct and treatment of their bodies reflected their relationship with God. He wanted them to use their freedom in a way that honored God. He writes about the flesh and sexual immorality. His entire message is that their bodies might glorify God. Prayerfully, we want God to get the glory out of our lives in every way.
