ORDER MY STEPS
Today’s devotion title, Order My Steps, is something that we ask God to do. We are well aware that God knows the plans that He has for us: for us to succeed and to do good. Therefore, we must walk in the path that He has laid before us. We need God to order our steps that we might continue to walk in His Way. I love the song Order My Steps. However, it is more than a song and ought to be our prayer. Lord, guide us and direct our paths. When God directs our steps, we cannot go wrong. We go wrong when we move from the path that He has provided and go astray and find our lives in a mess. Psalm 119:133 is our devotional text and clearly, makes clear the need for God to order our steps.
“Guide my steps by your Word, so I will not be overcome by evil.”
The psalmist seeks the power and presence of God to guide His steps. He does not want to go in the wrong direction. In the previous verse, the psalmist seeks the presence of God to show him mercy. He recognizes that God’s mercy is for all who love Him and call on His holy and righteous name. The psalmist is honest and transparent. He begins verse one by saying “Joyful are people of integrity who follow the instructions of the Lord.” He ended the psalm in verse 176 and says, “I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.” The psalmist is aware that he has deviated from the path of the Lord. Nevertheless, he also shares that he has not forgotten the Lord’s commands and continues following the steps of the Lord. Prayerfully, your desire today is to follow the steps that the Lord has ordered.
