Opposition
All of us will encounter opposition when we try to follow the Lord. There will be times when we will feel as though we are on the losing side. But, rest assured, God is always there. God always provides a way for us to escape from those who oppose us. We cannot fight our battles, because “the battle is not ours but the Lord’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15 KJV). In Matthew 2:13, we find these words:
“After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up! Flee to Egypt with the Child and His mother’ the angel said. ‘Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.’”
The gospel writer records the escape to Egypt. Joseph, father of Jesus, was warned in a dream that they should flee Bethlehem. Herod was troubled when he heard of the birth of the Messiah and was searching diligently for the young child. His motives were in complete opposition to the Savior’s birth, and he sought to destroy the child. Joseph and his family remained in Egypt until the death of Herod. What a wonderful God we have! He never ceases to protect us. He makes a way of escape just in time. We should never fear our opposition, for when we are in the will of God, He will provide our every need. Praise God for every battle He brought us through and every victory that has come in our lives! Give God thanks today that in spite of those who tried to make life hard for us, we are still here. Praise God!
