I remember a poem that read, “Give us bread but give us roses too.” What the poet was saying in effect was, we hunger for bread but our souls hunger to be filled. Only God can fill a hungry soul. If you live long enough, your soul will become empty and you will need it refilled. Life’s problems can drain your soul and can cause much pain. If your soul has never been hungry, the time will surely come when you will need the Lord to fill it. The good news is that our mighty God can, and will fill your empty soul, as recorded in Psalm 107:9.

“For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”

The psalmist makes it clear that God can fill an empty soul. The King James Version reads, “He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” The psalmist is confident in God’s blessings. God fulfills both the human and divine needs. To those lost in the desert, He will give relief. The Lord’s goodness and kindness will be extended to them. The psalmist calls on us to give praise to the Lord for His goodness and wonderful works. Those who cry unto the Lord in times of trouble will be saved from their distresses. What a wonderful God we serve. He can fill our stomachs and are hearts with His love, strength, power and might. There is no want in Him. Take a moment today and give Him thanks for all He has done in your lives. He provided bread when you were hungry, water when you were thirsty and filled your souls until your cups overflowed. All who are thirsty and need a drink can come to Him and be refreshed, replenished, and restored by His loving hand.
