NEW YEAR’S EVE
As this year comes to a close, many newspapers and television reporters will highlight events that occurred over the course of the year. Unfortunately, we will see calamities, tragedies, violence, the effects of the economy, and other news that speak of things that took place. We will see or hear little of how God blessed us, only words expressing luck or good fortune. God’s people must share what the Lord has done. Certainly, the Lord had been good to us in 2019: healing has taken place, souls have been saved, miracles have been wrought, and the list of blessings can go on and on. These outnumber the tragic events that have taken place. We approach the New Year with faith and hope because we know what God has done in the past. God has rendered blessings in our lives as expressed in Isaiah 58:1:
“Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast. Shout aloud! Don’t be timid. Tell my people Israel of their sins!”
The writer urges the people to cry loud so those who have not heard will hear about the goodness of the Lord. He goes on to say for them to lift their voice like a trumpet and not to remain silent. This is exaltation to the people of God to raise not only their voices but also to raise their hearts. He makes it clear that those who have somehow forsaken God or sought to follow other gods are missing blessings that only come from God. It is my prayer today you will encourage someone and share with someone the blessings God has given to you. Tell them the same blessings will be with us tomorrow as we begin a new year.
