Never Run ahead of God
We tend to run ahead of God. Sometimes we make decisions based on our flesh; but it is imperative that we follow after God for He knows the way. When we go ahead of Him we are headed for self-destruction. It’s so easy to think we can handle things that come our way based upon our own intellect. But God knows the plans He has for us, and if we simply follow Him, we will reap a harvest of blessings. We should take a moment to look back over our lives to the times when we took matters into our own hands. Surely, the results were not in the will of God. In John 13:37, we find these words:
“‘But why can’t I come now, Lord?” he asked. “I’m ready to die for you.“
Peter poses a question to the Master. Peter was insisting on not only going with the Master, but wanted to run ahead of Him to indicate his willingness to follow Him. He was asking to go where he was not equipped to go. The Master knew what was ahead of Him, but Peter was not even aware of what he was asking. What a profound lesson for each of us! We see so many examples of how we run ahead of God: seeking positions we are not ready for, asking for things we cannot handle … the list goes on and on. We must all remember to never run ahead of God. What God has for us is just for us!
