There are times in our lives when our cups overflow.  God pours out blessings far beyond our capacity to embrace.  Our cups are running over with God’s grace and mercy.  Our Lord who is the gracious host has blessed us.  Not only does He fill our cups but also they are filled to the brim and running over. Our relationship with God is one of the richest blessings we could ever receive. God blesses us, and He blesses us abundantly.  The 23rd Psalm indicates to the psalmist that his cup is running over:

“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”

The psalmist uses the metaphor of a host to give richer and deeper expressions of his relationship with his God.  He talks about the provisions prepared by the heavenly host preparing a table and being anointed. His enemies are outside glaring and helpless because the Great Shepherd protects the psalmist.  The anointing of oil upon his head refreshes him. God has shown him favor and his cup is running over.   He has not been forgotten or neglected, instead he is at a feast with God at the head and he is a welcomed guest.  Oh, my brothers and sisters, take the time today to thank God that He fills our cups when they are empty and causes them to overflow. We serve a wonderful God.
