We serve a merciful God. We fall down but we get back up. There is no need for us to live each day with the weight of our failures on our back. We need to move beyond our failures. In other words, we need to let go and let God. As the year draws to a close, God has given us the opportunity to begin the year with a new slate. Do not allow your past failures to block your blessings for God has forgiven you and has wonderful opportunities waiting for you. Just put your hope and trust in Him. Do not let others remind you of your failures. Some will never forgive you for your sins or shortcomings, but God has forgiven you and you are able to move forward. This is expressed in our text today, found in Psalm 37:24.

“Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”

The psalmist, in verse one calls on the people not to fret because of evil doers. They are to trust the Lord and do good. Verse 1 says, “Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong.” He says that God’s people are safe even though they stumble at times. The Lord is always there to pick them up. He writes, “Depart from evil and do good.” The Lord delights in those who put their trust and hope in Him. Throughout this psalm, he repeats the need to move beyond their failures with the knowledge that the Lord will hold them by His hand. Read this entire psalm. Know beyond the shadow of a doubt that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Nevertheless, God’s love is there to cover our sins and grant mercy toward us.
