MOTHER’S DAY – A GODLY MOTHER
As we observe Mother’s Day, we thank God for godly mothers. There are no words to describe the gift of a God-fearing woman. Many of us can acknowledge how our mothers prayed for us and taught us of God’s love. They told us and lived a life that embraced the love of God. Mothers made many sacrifices for us and we are the recipients of their prayers and sacrifices. Some have gone home to glory, and we thank God for the richness of their lives. I remember a television program, I Remember Mama; a program I will never forget. Mothers are gifts from God to be loved, respected and honored. A portion of scripture that I cherish in my heart is Proverbs 31:10-31. The Living Bible Translation reads “Her children stand and bless her; so does her husband. He praises her with these words:” Today’s devotion is verse 28 from the New Living Translation.
“Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her.”
The virtuous woman is acknowledged in this verse. She is praised by her work. She is intelligent, beautiful, and opens her heart and hands to the poor. Her words are wise, and kindness is on her tongue. She does not eat the bread of idleness but works hard. She is also acknowledged for the reverence and fear that she has for the Lord. Her husband and children called her blessed. Thank God today for godly mothers; singled, divorced, widowed. Honor God for them. Remember these words, “Honor thy father and mother and thy days will be long upon the earth.” Do not let this Mother’s Day be the only day you honor her. Give her flowers every day and thank God for the gift of a godly mother.
