MOTHER’S DAY – A DEVOTED MOTHER
As we observe Mother’s Day we give God thanks for the gift of a devoted mother. There is nothing like a mother’s love. A devoted mother loves her children unconditionally and makes sacrifices, loving them with a never-ending love. Whatever you do today, make sure you take the time to express your love to your mother. If your mother has gone home to glory, then take the time to simply thank God for the impact that she made on your life. If you are a mother, prayerfully, you have displayed the love of the Lord to your children. Never give up on them. Love them fully and completely. In today’s devotion, we see the gift of the devoted mother in John 19:26, which reads:
“When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, ‘Woman, behold thy son!’”
We see the mother of Jesus at the foot of the cross. Her son, whom she loves, is hanging there in excruciating pain. He is crucified for no sins of His own, but because of His great love for God’s people. The soldiers who crucified Him took His garment and cast lots for it. Surrounded by Mary Magdalene and Mary the wife of Cleophas, Mary watches all of this with a heavy heart. Jesus reaches out to His mother and tells His beloved disciple, “Behold, your mother.” He made provisions for her because He recognized how she blessed Him. It is my fervent prayer today, that we will always have a heart for our mothers.
