MEDITATE ON THESE THINGS
I remember a bible study session where the instructor asked each of us to meditate. He asked us to each take the time to let our minds focus on the things of God. Recalling that, I thought about the need for each of us to be intentional in our meditations; clearing our minds so that we can stay focused on God. Our minds can be cluttered, going in a thousand different directions, making it hard to concentrate. However, when we take the time to focus on God, we find new and exciting experiences in our lives. In Philippians 4:8, we find these words:
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Paul writes of the need to stay focused. His main concern is that the believer stay connected to God. He encourages them to think about things that are true, honest and pure. His main objective is that the people have moral standards and apply them to their lives. Paul takes the time in the following verses, to share Christian principles of how they are to behave. He tells then in verse 9, “Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me.. then the God of peace will be with you.” As you meditate today, think of these things: the virtues of God, the love of God, the presence of God and the power of God. A believer should always think on these things.
