Love is more than just a word. It is a word of action! Love is a word that must be shown with devotion. Love is sacrificial. It is the soul of our being. I would argue that we sometimes use the word loosely. We can say all the prophetic words that sound good, but have no real work behind the words. Unfortunately, love has been tarnished with superficial feelings. Nevertheless, love is real. God’s love for us is shown in so many ways and we are called to love others in the same way. The scripture reference for this devotion is found in I John 3:18.

“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”

The writer speaks of loving one another, something we have heard before. Loving our brothers and sisters who are believers proves that we have passed from death to life. One without love is still dead. We know real love, for Jesus gave His life for us. Likewise, we should give our lives for our brothers and sisters. These are powerful words. He indicates that we cannot really just talk about it without showing actions of truth, and standing with God. To gain a clear view of what real love is, read this entire chapter when you can. What good is it if we say we love and do not show love? It is meaningless. We are called upon to love as God loves us. Jesus has proven real love by His awesome sacrifice. May our love be real in every way.
