LIVING WATER
Previously, I have said that our souls get thirsty. Yes, we need water to sustain us. In fact, our physicians recommend that we regularly drink water so that our bodies will be renewed. However, water cannot do all things. One thing is that it cannot quench the empty soul. Only God can do that. We thank God today for living water. May we all drink from the water that never runs dry so that we might be renewed and refreshed. We need this water, for life’s problems can drain us dry and cause us to thirst after the living water. Today’s scripture reference is John 7:38.
“Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
John writes that Jesus extends an invitation to anyone who is thirsty to come and drink from the Living Water. It is a privilege and service offered to believers. This water is abundant, satisfying and overflowing. What Christ offers, satisfies the longing soul. The Living Water is an illustration of the gift of the Spirit. The Spirit of God is overflowing as a full and complete fountain that never runs dry. We are blessed to know that He is able to quench our thirst, and to cleanse, restore and fill us. So, let us drink until our cups overflow. Let us drink of His mercy, grace, love and forgiveness. Let us thank Him for renewing us by His precious, precious wellspring of Living Water. The songwriter wrote “I came to Jesus as I was, weary, worn and sad; I found in Him a resting place, and He has made me glad.”
