LIVING BY THE SPIRIT

As I was doing this devotion, I God challenged me to write something that would have meaning for God’s people.  I have said on many occasions we cannot do anything without the Spirit. I would argue strongly, we have to live by the Spirit because the flesh is weak. I remember giving this advice in a sermon: when the flesh says one thing to you then do the opposite.  That is another way of saying never give into the flesh, but live by the Spirit. I am about to shout as I continue with this devotion, for I fully understand there is no power outside of the Spirit.  I cannot even love without the Spirit because pride gets in the way. I cannot serve without the Spirit because evil gets in the way. Thanks, be unto God for the Spirit that gives us power.  There is a portion of scripture in Galatians 5:25 that speaks about the need to live by the Spirit.  It reads in this manner:

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” This very powerful scripture requires our reading the entire chapter, because it talks about gentleness, self-control, and the flesh.  In the previous verse, Paul indicates those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passion and desires.  He understands clearly about this new life in the Spirit.  In fact, he lives and walks in the Spirit, which is the most strenuous of all ways of living. To walk in the Spirit is to live one’s life in accordance with the mind of Christ.  I would urge you to read this entire chapter and see the wonderful benefits that God gives us as we live by the Spirit. I might add that it requires discipline, devotion, and sacrifice. Nevertheless, the benefits of living in the will of Christ are awesome.  It is worth it all.  I pray we will all seek to live by the Spirit
