LIVE WITH HUMILITY
I indicated before, as I write these devotions, I have these words in my office that
I read daily. I work hard, and I try to stay humble. I believe that we must live with
humility. Unfortunately, there are those who believe that being humble is a sign of
weakness, but that is so far from the truth. God has called us to live with humility. It
takes strength to live with humility, but God gives us strength to live in a way that
honors Him. It is hard to find people who live with humility, even in the church. I
have said before that we must be careful not to let our titles and positions go to our
heads. Titles and positions do not define us. We need to remember that God gave us
those position and titles, and we are to live in such a way that we honor Him by
living with humility. In John 3: 30, we find these words:
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
John the Baptist, knowing that he had been blessed by God, is
saying that God must become greater in his life, and he must
become less so that he may walk with humility. John indicates
that the One who has come from above is greater than he is, and
he recognized the power of the Lord. The people began going to
see the Messiah rather than John, and John was content with
this, and lived in humility. When you get a chance, read this entire chapter. Prayerfully,
today, you are content to live with humility. Please understand: we should not pretend
to be God-like, but we should live with humility that honors Him.
