Life and Light

We were blessed during one of the evenings when we listened to the Alan Segal Quartet at our Jazz & Joe Night at Bethlehem. These musicians come to Bethlehem to share their gifts in an evening of music and fellowship. The proceeds from this event
support the children in our Ogada Children’s Home in Kenya. We are blessed to have more than 120 children that we support on a monthly basis. Some think it wrong to listen to jazz or contemporary music, but one can be enriched by listening to a variety of music. I am always inspired by something that happens in any setting where I am able to see God working. Because of that night, I was led to write this devotion about life and light, the focus of today’s text. I wanted to set the background to show how we can see God in everything. In John 1:4, we find these words:

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought
 light to everyone.

The writer says that there is life and light in God. Jesus referred to Himself as light and life through scripture. You can see Him at work in all things in the same way that I saw Him that evening as people came to extend themselves to our children in Africa. It was more than just an evening of jazz, but a time of giving and sharing. Sometimes, we cannot see things or understand them because we are blinded. Nevertheless, the Lord gives us light to see, as well as life, so that we might have it, more abundantly. Prayerfully, we are all walking in the light today, and we can see God in all things
