I remember vividly the words expressed by one of our callers on the Morning Prayer line.  The caller talked about the importance of our conversation being pleasant and using pleasant words.  That is so important, for as believers we cannot use words to hurt or disrespect another child of God.  Our conversation should always give God glory and edify another believer.  That is to say, we should abstain from using profanity, hurling insults, or speaking to people in a way that causes hurt or pain.  According to the Word of God, our conversation should be gracious. Whatever we say should be in keeping with our walk with God.  Look at this scripture in Colossians 4:6:

“Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” This is a powerful word and hopefully a word that is convicting.  Here Paul speaks about the importance of speech.  He is deeply concerned for his fellow laborers. He warns them not to engage in negative conversation, but rather a conversation that is blessed with grace and seasoned with love. This letter written by Paul to his fellow laborers is so inspiring.  He takes the time to give them encouragement and thank them for their initiative in recommending Christ to those who have not come to know Him. While we cannot speak the language of the world, our conversation ought always to be of high standards that come from the very heart of God.  Let us season our tongues with love, and let us ask God to tame our tongues so they might always speak for Him
