As I thought about this devotion, I could not help but think of the need to control our tongues. Nothing can be more dangerous than a deadly, untamed tongue. We cannot allow the flesh to rule our lives. There needs to be order. When we say that we are the children of the Most High God, our lives must reflect it. We need to live according to His will and way and avoid reckless living. We cannot afford to have a foul mouth or dirty mind. We must be able to control those sexual desires. We need discipline to walk with humility and love, not allowing hate to reign over us. Our bodies are the living temple of God and must be under His way all the time. In Psalm 38:9 we read:

“Lord, all my desire is before Thee; and my groaning is not hid from Thee.”

The psalmist desires to honor the Lord. He describes his condition. His enemies surround him, and he has trouble on every hand. His heart pants, nevertheless, his life has been placed in God’s hand. In spite of all he is going through, he wants the Lord to be pleased with his life. He wants his life to be under control so that he will not sin against God. Even though his body and soul are in distress, his heart still beats for the Lord. He confesses his sin, calling on the Lord to forsake him not and to hurry to his rescue. He is being honest and wants to walk upright for the Lord. I pray that you have your life under control and no matter what comes your way, you will stand firm on the Word of God. You will not succumb to the flesh but constantly rely on the power of God.
