KEEP LOOKING FORWARD

Whenever you use the name of the Lord, give glory to Him. Do not use His name in vain, but always honor His name with reverence. My heart grieves when His name is used with profanity. Prayerfully, that does not apply to many of our readers. However, refrain from using His name in jokes. There is nothing wrong with a good laugh, and I love to laugh, but there are many other things to joke about. Never laugh at someone or make fun of others and certainly, avoid joking about God. He is no joking matter. We should become upset when God’s name is used in a way that does not reverence or respect Him. Psalm 29:2 is our reference today.

“Honor the Lord for the glory of His name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”

This is a call to worship. The psalmist expresses glory and honor to God. The highest angels are called Sons of God. They rejoice as they are summoned to bring honor to God. David’s psalm calls upon the heavenly angels and the people of God to worship Him in the beauty of His Holiness; to give Him praise for His high and holy name. Let Yahweh know how grateful and thankful they are to be in His presence. Throughout this psalm, the psalmist speaks of the Lord’s voice filled with majesty and power, and how the Lord made Himself known in the storm. May we forever lift His name on high, declaring His goodness and kindness to the world. Let the world know that there is something about His name. Bless that wonderful name. There is no other name under heaven and earth by which we can be saved, but the name of Jesus. May we always revere His name.
