KEEP AN OPEN MIND

Our minds must always be open. We can never allow ourselves to have a closed mind, for it will play tricks on us. It will have us thinking that wrong is right and right is wrong. I would argue strongly that the older we get, the more difficult it is for us to think differently. We become set in our ways. I think that is one of the reasons why we have so much racism in our country for people’s minds are wrought. They justify their actions based upon their thinking. If your think evil, you will do evil. On the other hand, if you think good, the prospects of doing good will come to bear. Having an open mind is crucial for every believer. It is not just how we think of others, but of God, and those of other faiths and ethnicities. We oftentimes think that our way is the only way and have closed minds. This is true in the church when some think that they are the only ones to have gotten it right. Our scripture I Corinthians 15:34 speaks of this.

“Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all.”

Paul writes this exhortation to wake up the people of God. He wants them to stop sinning and he knows that some of their sins have been as a result of their thoughts. Their minds have been closed. He also gives a strong  indication that some do not know God and are bringing Him shame. They claim they know Him, but their actions prove otherwise. Paul wants them to accept the knowledge of God and to develop into strong believers. He wants them to catch hold of the resurrection. He knows that bad company ruins good morals. He wants them to walk with God. I pray that we all have open minds and hearts and are open to change from our sinful nature. It is never too late. God has given us the opportunity to think clearly and live honorable before Him. I pray that God opens my mind so that I may catch hold of His power to live a life pleasing unto Him.
