Hunger and Thirst
Today’s devotion focuses on the fourth Beatitude. In Matthew 5:6, we find these words:
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
The words hunger and thirst reflect intense desire. Jesus, the Master Teacher, speaks of a deep desire for the fulfillment of righteousness. It cannot come on one’s own power, but by the power of God. The Word says that they shall be filled. The Lord shall fill those who seek to be upright, to live a righteous and holy life. The Master is not simply talking about that which fulfills one’s human needs; He is speaking about their spiritual needs as well. Everywhere Jesus went, He saw hungry people. Jesus did not neglect to meet their physical needs, but He was also concerned about their spiritual needs. Prayerfully, today we hunger and thirst after righteousness. Ask God to supply your soul’s needs.
