HOUSES BUILT ON THE ROCK
It is essential that we build our houses on a secure foundation — houses built on weak foundations will not last. It does not matter how beautiful our houses may be — plush carpet, flat screen televisions, custom-made furniture; however, if there is no firm foundation upon which our houses were built, then as soon as a storm comes, the houses will crumble. This is true literally and figuratively. Likewise, our foundations must also be rooted firmly in the Lord, or we, too, will fall apart. In Luke 6:48, we find these words:
“’It is like a person who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built.”
That solid rock is Jesus. We sing a song about the solid rock. Some of the lyrics are, “On Christ, the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” This song reminds us that building our houses on the “Rock” gives us the ability to make it through the toughest times. Today, we should give our houses a thorough inspection. Are they standing on sinking sand with no protection from the storms, or do they stand firm on a strong foundation — fortified and able to weather any storm? Only those houses whose foundations are built on the “Rock” will last.
