HOUSE RULES
I have seen several plaques in stores that one can purchase labeled “House Rules”. These plaques describe various “household chores” that must be performed. These rules, however, do not measure up to the “House Rules” that God has given us. Every house should be filled with love, respect, and honor for one another. How tragic it is to live under the same roof and not have intimate relationships with one another. And there may be some of us living in a house where God is not revered, and God’s “House Rules” are not followed. In Joshua 24:15, in we find these words:
“’But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord’.”
Without waiting for a vote from the people, Joshua declared his own allegiance to the Lord. It may not be popular, my brothers and sisters, but he who loves the Lord must declare that love as Joshua did. These are the “house rules” we should follow. Read this chapter when you get a chance. Then prayerfully, we will be able to say the same as Joshua did, “but as for me and my family/house, we will serve the Lord!”
