I remember the words of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, “Keep hope alive.” His words really were inspiration during turbulent times. As God’s people face racial attacks on every side, I believe with all my heart that those words also have a deeper meaning for the people of God whose hope is in Christ Jesus. Nothing and no one can defeat us. It is the anchor for our souls that keeps us grounded. We are able to face trials and adversities knowing we have a God who is on our side. We believe that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.  We can say, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” Thanks be unto God today for the anchor we have for our soul. The Scripture reference for our devotion is Hebrew 6:19.

“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.”

Here in this deep and moving passage of scripture we see how the writer speaks about God’s promises. He indicates that it is impossible for God to lie. That we can turn to Him for refuge and have great confidence that we can hold on to the hope that is set before us.  He refers to how Abraham waited patiently to see what God had promised. He writes clearly about God’s reliable power that keeps us strong, and that we can trust and depend on our God. Hope also leads us into a more deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. It provides an entrance into the Holy of Holies, to the sanctuary of the Most High God. So, as this devotion ends, simply remember to hold on to hope, the anchor of our soul.
