HOLD FAST TO WHAT IS GOOD
Our love for one another as believers must be authentic, pure, and true. God instructs us to love with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and to do what is right, pleasing, and honorable unto Him daily. He has given us the blueprint for a meaningful life. It seems that when I meet people along the way and ask them how they are doing, many respond by saying, “I am living my dream. I am living the good life.” When I hear this, I ponder the difference between a dream and a good life. I believe with all my heart that the good life is doing what is right and honorable. The scripture reference is Romans 12:9:
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.”
In this deep and moving passage, Paul speaks about living an honorable life unto God. In this chapter, he speaks of living a sacrificial life unto God. He writes of showing kindness to others and doing it gladly and not pretending to love, but truly loving others. Hold fast to not being lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord with enthusiasm. When God’s people are in need, help them, eagerly offering yourself. When you get a chance read this entire chapter. Know beyond a shadow of a doubt that love is stronger than hate. Work at loving others and hold tightly to them.
