Today’s devotion speaks of the blessings that come from God’s unconditional love. His love is not based on what we do or do not do. It flows from His heart. We can do nothing to earn His love. We love Him because He first loved us – wide and deep. His love is not based upon whether we keep the law, fast or tithe. He gives His love fully and freely. I remember when a professor asked, “Why do we love our spouses?” The unanimous responses were because we love them for what they do for us. God does not express this kind of love. We probably love others because of what they can do for us. But, take a moment and think of God’s love for us. It is not based upon anything that we have done for Him. In Romans 5:8, we read of God’s love: Underline this verse, for this is the heart of God’s love.

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Paul expresses by His death, Christ did for us what we could not do for ourselves. Consequently, we see the mercy and love of God in the cross. We see reconciliation. He did not wait until we were saved or until we turned our lives around. As sinners, God loved us! We should never forget that. Greater love has no one than this that He would lay down his life for sinners like you and I. Paul writes, we are justified by His blood. Reconciliation is an act of God in which He takes the initiative and leads the way. Thank God for His love for us. Never take it for granted. It is a gift from God. As I conclude this devotion, always remember that in spite of all of our wrong doings, and we have many, God loves us and keeps on loving us.
