God speaks! There is no doubt about it. He has a way of getting our attention. However, the question that comes to mind is do we hear God’s voice. Then, after we hear, do we respond. God has a way of claiming our attention. At times, He speaks with a very quiet voice and at other times, He makes His voice loud and clear. At other times, He speaks to us through dreams or experiences. However, make no mistake for He is always speaking. The scripture reference for this devotion is I Samuel 3:10 and reads in this manner:

“And the Lord came and called as before, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, your servant is listening.’”

In this moving passage, the Lord calls Samuel, as He has called other prophets, to do the work of the Lord. Samuel tells the Lord he is listening, and the Lord tells him that He is about to do a new thing in Israel. On that day, the Lord says, He will do what He told Eli that He would do in His house from beginning to end. The Lord told Eli that He would judge the house forever. Samuel carried out the Lord’s vision because he was available to the Lord. At your next opportunity, read this entire chapter to see how the Lord used Samuel. He will use us if we hear His voice and follow His command. As I conclude this devotion, the question is do you hear God’s voice? Are you open to what He has to say? Are you willing to listen and obey? Your response is your choice. Prayerfully, you will respond in a way that will give God glory and honor, and you will be blessed.
