As believers, we cannot ignore those in need. Countless people cry out every day for help. In far too many cases, we turn a deaf ear. We cannot depend upon the government to help. I am sad to say that the government often ignores these people. As God’s people, we need to hear their cries. We cannot walk past them and feel as though we are honoring God. We hear the Master say to His disciples, “When I was hungry, ye gave me something to eat”. Today’s devotion, speaking about the need to hear the cries of those in need, is found in Proverbs 21:13 we read.

“Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.”

The writer indicates that if we turn a deaf ear to those in need, when we cry out, we will not be heard. This is to say that one who is wise will have compassion toward the poor. One who is wise will open his or her heart and extend themselves to those who are in need. We never know when we might be seeking help from others. One may say that there are those who cry out and are not truly in need. We are not to judge. Our God will deal with them. However, we are to respond with a heart filled will love. It is my prayer that when the needy cry out, we will all respond by giving a helping hand.
