When we say that we have received Christ we must have the Spirit of Christ. No longer are we under the heavy weight of sin, but we have been released to live a life that is full and free. Sin no longer has dominion over us, for Christ is our strength and power. The flesh is weak and causes us to do ungodly things. But, thanks be unto God, that His love and power are greater than any force of Satan aimed at our defeat. The scripture lesson for this devotion is found in Romans 8:9.

“But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)”

Paul reminds God’s people that in Christ they no longer belong to the natural order of the flesh, for the Spirit of God dwells in them. He says that anyone without the Spirit does not belong to Christ. Paul is not his own; he has been brought with a price. He describes two kinds of life: carnal and spiritual. He knew of the carnal life. Then Christ came into his life and turned him around. He writes that the Spirit of God dwells in the hearts of His people giving them the strength they need to overcome their sinful ways. What a blessing to know that we who have received Him, have a brand new life to know Christ and to be in Christ. To be in the Spirit is to have the Spirit and belong to the body of Christ. We cannot do everything we want to do and maintain that Christ is in us. The Spirit of Christ must always be present in our daily lives.
