GREAT IS THE LORD
As I thought of this devotion, I immediately began to hum “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised.” By now, the readers know that I cannot sing, but when I think of the Lord’s greatness, my soul sings. We serve a great and glorious God. Nothing or no one can compare to His greatness. I know we say that God is good, but that does not describe the power of God. Even if we say God is great, it does not fully express the magnitude of His love and power. Isaiah 61:10 is our devotional text today.
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For He has dressed me with the clothing of salvation, and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for His wedding or a bride with her jewels.”
We are able to see the beauty and majestic power of our God. “Clothe me with festival garments of salvation and the robe of righteousness,” says Isaiah. He opens his mouth and praises the Lord for His greatness. He rejoices as Yahweh clothes’ the prophet with His spirit and anoints Him. Isaiah announces the overwhelming power of God. The metaphor of the bridegroom and bride illustrates the heart of the prophet. God’s gracious presence shines upon His people and Isaiah is compelled to worship God. Be like the Prophet Isaiah and give God praise for His greatness.
