We think of the Lord’s blessings, and we need them every day. In our goings and comings, we need God’s Hand of Mercy upon us. I think of the times when we have family gatherings, we begin with prayer. But we need God’s gracious benediction as we leave because we do not know what lies ahead. We need His protection to cover us. I have said on more than one occasion, as we gather for worship, if at all possible, we should try to stay until the benediction. I know that there are times when this is not possible. But in the times in which we live, we need God’s protection, even in the sanctuary. And as we get into our cars, we need the Lord’s hands around us. In Numbers 6:24,we find these words:

“May the Lord bless you and protect you.”

This is a blessing that God offers to His people. The Lord said to Moses, Aaron and his sons, “Bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace.” This is the benediction, which means “the bestowing of a blessing.” He goes on to say, “Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in My Name, I myself will bless them.” Read this entire chapter to see how God blesses the people. We need His blessings! Thank God today for the gracious benediction He offers over all of us!
