In my humble opinion, today’s devotion is a word we need. Good news in times of trouble! For much of 2020, we have only heard bad news. Coronavirus and other events have changed the very course of our lives. Every time we have heard or seen the news, it is devastating. Therefore, we need to hear some good news. I have restricted my time from watching the news for it is troubling. I find myself going to the Word of God so that my strength might be renewed.  As you read this devotion, join me in this profound Word in II Corinthians 4:17.

“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”

As I was flipping the pages of my Bible, it fell to the floor. Minister Robin Hinton, who works with me on these devotions said, “It’s a heavy Word.” I agreed with her wholeheartedly. Paul declares the good news in times of trouble and that eternal glory will follow our brief afflictions. Paul fully knows that our troubles are momentary compared to the glory which shall be revealed. Paul is able to say that he does not look merely to things seen, but also to things unseen. He looks beyond the troubles and sees hope in Christ. Paul’s experience has shown him that troubles will not last always. He has a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and does not allow trouble to overwhelm him. He knows in the end that he will be victorious. If you receive nothing else in this devotion, know that, this too shall pass! God still reigns, rules, and will bring an end to these troubles. That surely is good news.
