Good And Evil
I am always amazed at how people try to make evil – good. We have even gotten to the point that we can justify the sin that we do. We have replaced adultery with the expression “having an affair” because that seems to make it better. Instead of saying the word “lie,” we say “untruth.” But a lie is a lie and evil is evil and sin is sin: there is no getting around it. I could write a whole book about how we try to dress up sin by calling it by names other than what it really is. The Word of God is clear on this matter of evil- it warns us not to call evil – good. In Isaiah 5:20, we find these words:
“What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”
Isaiah warns the people about their wrongdoings and pleads with them to draw near to God. They have rejected the Law of the Lord and despised the Word of the Holy One, tending to do their own thing instead. He reminds them of what the Lord will do if they do not change from their sinful ways. Read this chapter when you get a chance so that you can understand the warnings that Isaiah gave to the people. Those same warnings are in place for us. Those of us who are wise know that God is not pleased with the evil deeds that we do. He wants us to choose that which is good and honorable. Prayerfully, that is the choice that each of us will make.
