God’s Presence

In our devotion yesterday, we discussed how Samson became powerless because he took his eyes off God. In today’s devotion, we find that the Lord blesses Joshua with His presence. God has promised us the assurance that He is with us. Whatever we do, as long as we keep our heart and mind on Him, He will be there with us. We will have the power we need when we need it. We will never be left powerless. In Joshua 1:5, we find these words:

“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.”

We see God’s promise that no enemy will be able to stand against Joshua. The same way God was with Moses, the Lord assures him that He will be with him. He will not fail Joshua, and He tells him to be strong and courageous (v 6). The Lord tells Joshua that there are no boundaries. Every place that the sole of his feet will tread, God will be with Him. Joshua is given a divine mission, but he is not without the presence of God. Because Moses is now deceased, Joshua has the awesome responsibility to pick up the mantle and to lead the people. God selects those who are ready and prepared. Joshua had shared the confidence of Moses and worked side-by-side with him. He is given the opportunity to move the people forward. Whenever the Lord gives us an assignment, we have the assurance of His presence. We must always remember, as stated in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always even to the end …”
