On this Valentine’s Day, set aside to express love, I pray that you share love with family and others near and dear to you. Countless cards, flowers, candy and other gifts will be given today. I remember the words of Hallmark, “When you care enough send the best”. More than any gift, that one may give or receive today thank God for His love. His love is unconditional. It is not based on what we give Him, because He loves us first. Nothing can compare to the love of God. I often say to people, love the giver of the gift more than the gift. God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. So if God has blessed you with a spouse, parent or a child, love God because of the precious gifts He has given to you. So, this valentine, take the time to thank God for His love. Our scripture reference for this devotion is Psalm 48:14:
“For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die.”
Here, the psalmist expresses his deep and abiding love to God. Throughout this psalm, he writes about the power of God. Here in the temple the loud and joyous sounds of praise and thanksgiving were offered unto God. The psalmist is well aware that nothing can separate him from the love of God, not even death. He wants the next generation to know about the merciful God that reigns and rules. He is not ashamed to praise God for His abundant love. Thank God today for the love He surrounds us with day by day, night by night, and moment by moment.
