After reading Genesis 12:1, my soul was on fire because it tells of God’s initiative as He called one of His servants to service. We do not choose Him; He chooses us. How often we forget that we did not take the first step, but it was God who called us and extended Himself to us. I realize that in my frailty, God took the initiative to call and use me. What a blessing it is to know that God sees potential in us that we might not be able to see! Thanks be unto God for taking the initiative. In Genesis 12:1, we find these words:
“The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”
The Lord told Abram to trust Him and to move out of his country. The Lord does not give us an assignment without accompanying us. He knows the way we take, and we must always move by faith. Abraham became known as the “Father of Faith” because he trusted God. God never tells us exactly what the road will be; but He has promised never to leave or forsake us. When God calls us, we must be willing to follow Him. We cannot go ahead of God, but we must simply wait for God to take the initiative and to call us. When He speaks, we have to move!
