God has given His people commandments and we must be willing to follow them. We do not speak much about the Lord’s commandments today. Perhaps they are thought of as not being applicable to todays’ generation. Nevertheless, God’s commandments are for our own well-being. They provide instruction to us on how to live, as well as how to love. We cannot overlook them or fail to carry them out. In Mark 12: 30 we find these words:

“And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.”

Jesus replied to His religious leaders who asked Him what commandment was important. These teachers of religious law wanted to know from Jesus what the most
important commandment was. He answered them and told them that the second commandment was equally important, and that one is to love your neighbor as yourself. We can see that Jesus gave us great commandments to live by — to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. The question today is, are you following God’s commandments? Do you love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind? Do you love your neighbor the same as yourself? That may well be a person of another faith or ethnicity. Do you treat your neighbor kindly? Think about that for a moment. Prayerfully we can all answer those questions by saying, “I am striving every day to keep God’s commandments.”
