Today’s devotion speaks clearly about how God requires obedience. Obedience is better than sacrifice. If we say we love God, we need to obey and keep His commandments. We cannot do what we want to do and claim to love the Lord. I would argue strongly that obedience unto God is hard to come by. There are times when we rebel and want to do our own thing. Yet, if we truly love the Lord, we need to do what He requires of us. Our scriptural reference is in John 14:15 and reads in this manner:

“If you love me, obey my commandments.”

In this verse, we read of the blessings that come from obedience. In this chapter, we are given the promise that when we ask in the Father’s name, He will give it to us. John then speaks of the need to keep His commandments. This is a mandate – not an option. We cannot overlook or ignore this command. If we say we love the Lord, we must be willing to follow Him. The Lord has also given us a new commandment to love. That is another devotion itself. We are told to love one another. Today, I pray that you are able to honor and keep His commandments. Honor thy mother and father that thy days might be long. Read all the commandments and follow them. Do not pick and choose only those you are willing to obey. Ask God to give you strength to be obedient to them all.
