It is essential that we build our homes on solid foundations. The Lord is the architect, and we need to follow His blueprint. I would argue strongly that far too many homes are built on material goods alone. The reality is that they do not last. We need a secure foundation so that when life’s troubles beat upon our hearts, we have the confidence that we can make it. Please do not misunderstand me, there is nothing wrong with having a beautiful home with fine amenities, but our homes need to be deeper than that. God is a Master Builder and He is the only one who can sustain us when the winds of life beat upon us. The scripture reference for this devotion is Psalm 127:1.

“Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”

What Does Psalm 127:1 Mean?In this moving passage, we see a psalm of Solomon. It is indeed a song for pilgrims as they ascend to Jerusalem. Solomon wanted the people to know that unless the Lord is the Master Builder, all their work would be in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the people would face despair. Solomon writes that there is no point in working night and day if the Lord is not in your heart. Solomon is wise and gives good advice to his people. That same advice is useful to us. Building your home on a solid foundation will allow you to enjoy the beauty, the peace, and the love of the Lord. Prayerfully, your home has become a sanctuary of reverence, love, and joy.
