There are times when we talk to God and need to hear Him answer us.  Therefore, it is important that we listen for Him so that we can recognize His voice. It is not enough, at times, simply to talk to Him, but it is more important to hear His voice reassuring us that He will hear our feeble cry and will answer by and by. I would argue strongly that there will come a time in all of our lives when we need to hear from God. Yes, it is good to have family and friends who speak to us and help us in times of need, but no one can soothe our aching heart like the voice of God. No matter what we are going through, we know that we have a God who not only hears, but also speaks. Psalm 83:1 speaks about the need to hear from God:

“O God, do not be silent! Do not be deaf. Do not be quiet, O God.”

The psalmist begins by asking the Lord to speak.  He is at a point in his life where he needs to hear from God. Seen in its historical context there is great peril in the land and the psalmist is seeking to hear from God. He is saying Lord wake up, so many things are happening, please do not keep silent or hold thy peace from me for enemies are all around me. This cry is uttered from his heart as well as from his lips.  He is putting God on alert that he needs immediate help.  He is pleading to God and wants Him to know he acknowledges Him as all-powerful, almighty and omnipresent. I pray today that you know that when you call on the name of God, He will hear your prayer and will answer you.
