GOD AND THE FAMILY
I remember when one of our members was having a new home built. Her love for God and her family was deep in her heart. She asked me to pray for the home before it was constructed. When I arrived, I found that she had placed the family bible under the foundation, indicating that her home was built on a solid foundation — God and family. Notice I said “home.” There is a vast difference between a “home” and a “house.” A “house” can have all of the amenities, like a flat screen TV, wall to wall carpet etc. but a “home” is where God dwells, and where the family prays together, loves one another, and supports one another. In Psalm 127:1, we find these words:
“Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted...”
The psalmist is well aware that unless the Lord is the foundation of the home, it will have little to no value. He calls upon the people of God to honor the Lord for the rest of their lives. He also speaks about the gift of children, saying in verse 3, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.” The psalmist knows that blessings come when families pray for each other, and love and support each other. Thank God for family! Prayerfully, each of us can truly say that we live in a “home” rather than a “house.” And remember the saying, “A family that prays together, stays together.”
