As we observe Thanksgiving, we thank God from the depths of our hearts for all of His rich and generous blessings.  We should not be content simply enjoying this day with a wonderful meal, watching football, or giving attention to the parades, but rather we should spend time giving thanks to God.  For He, and He alone deserves all of our praise.  Please do not misunderstand me; this is a wonderful day to spend with family and friends and to gather around the table for a meal. It is also a wonderful time to enjoy the beauty of children and the thanksgiving festivities.  None of that would be possible, however, without the grace and mercy of the Lord.  Read this short psalm, beginning in verse one:

“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!”

Here the psalmist calls on the people to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.  He urges them to sing with a cheerful voice.  This occasion is one of the great seasons for Israel to come up to the temple to give thanks to the Lord.  The psalmist urges them to serve the Lord with gladness.  There was an expression of jubilant singing as the people drew near to the sanctuary. They took delight in worshipping Him.  They were called to remember that He made them, blessed them, and provided for them.  As you draw near to the time of breaking bread, give Him thanks and have a brief devotion around your meal.  Turn the television off and lift up your voice for a few minutes to acknowledge His goodness.  Have a blessed Thanksgiving. May His grace and mercy be with you and your family.
