GIVE HONOR WHERE HONOR IS DUE
Today’s devotion speaks of giving honor where honor is due. God is calling His people to honor and acknowledge those who deserve honor. He deserves our honor! He deserves our grace. He alone is worthy to be praised. At the same time, we should honor our elders and those who serve our Lord. If we cannot honor those who provide blessings, how can we honor God who is the source of our blessings? I might add that you cannot honor God and His people when you are proud and arrogant. One must have a humble heart and spirit to give honor where honor is due. The scripture reference is I Peter 5:5 and reads:
“In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
It is amazing how Peter places emphasis upon the relationship of youth and age in the church. Peter is aware that God resists the proud and haughty. He recognizes that humility must be a part of our spiritual walk. Peter’s love for the Lord is clear. He writes that in due time, God will exalt the humble who honor Him and each other. He is aware that those who are young should acknowledge their elders. Paul is aware that the elders should honor God. It is hard for you to honor others when you cannot be humble. True humility is hard to find today. In conclusion, honor your parents for that your days may be long upon this earth. Honor your pastor, for God has given us pastors after His own heart. Honor God for He deserves to be honored.
